Primavera. 2015
Once again Sokari Douglas Camp reinvents the figures of Classical European Art with her personal, unmistakable touch. This is part of the installation inspired by Botticelli’s Primavera. Sokari takes Flora and dresses her with African women’s features. She is the personification of rebirth, a living force strengthening nature with her aura. On her clothes and around her, flowers are blossoming, but pay attention, together with the flowers there are toy cars.
Sokari creates new meaning through new contexts. The evolution of this Primavera goes toward a surprising development, where present and past meet each other.
